Jack Pierson
Jack Pierson (b. 1960) is one of the most influential American artists working today. Pierson works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, books, installations, and film; as well as wall and floor sculptures assembled from found letters. Drawn to stardom, melodrama, loneliness, and emotional narrative as themes, Pierson infuses his work with visual and literal references to lost love, sexual longing, faded glamour, evanescence, and beauty. Pierson is also concerned with the formal qualities of presentation and the number of aesthetic decisions necessary to achieve a balance between the narrative content of the artwork and its physical manifestation.
This publication on Pierson's work since 1992 is an artist's book containing an amalgamation of eight previous publications, all out of print. These books were designed by the artist and are reproduced here in their original size and chronological order. The publication is also enriched by new texts, critical studies and an introduction to Jack Pierson's earlier publications.
